Grand Opening Auction: Session 1 (October 20th, 2018)

Oakwood Auctions, in partnership with Golden Eagle Art Gallery, is proud to present our GRAND OPENING AUCTION of fine art and collectables. Consisting of two sessions held on October 20th and 21st, 2018, the grand opening features many historical and rare items and collectables. Session one includes a wide selection of exceptional artwork, sculptures, antiques, and unique collectables.

For art collectors, we have showcased an impressive selection of limited editions and original paintings. A significant highlight of today’s auction is “Haida Spirit” (Lot 203), a famous original painting by world renowned artist Robert Bateman that holds great spiritual significance. We also invite you to preview a superb collection of Robert Bateman limited edition lithographs and canvases (Lots 76-201). Bateman’s works hang in the homes of dignitaries, royalty, famous institutions, and corporations.

Another auction highlight is a spectacular collection by acclaimed Aboriginal Canadian artist, Norval Morrisseau, also known as "Copper Thunderbird". Considered the “Picasso of the North”, Morrisseau’s paintings depict the legends and culture of his people. In addition to a selection of his paintings, art lovers are invited to view his oval and circular originals as well as a unique hand-painted basket and moose call (Lots 204-238).

Another notable rare find on display is “Sleeping Figure” (Lot 452), an impressive original by artist Jia Lu, one of America’s best-known figurative painters from China. An additional desirable auction item is an original painting by acclaimed wildlife artist John Seerey-Lester, entitled “Tundra Family Arctic Wolves” (Lot 75). The painting can best be described as a “showstopper” with an image size of 72(w) x 48(h) inches and an impressive framed size of 81(w) x 58.5(h) inches.

Oakwood Auctions is also excited to present original collections by such accomplished artists as Todd White, Doug Laird, Bill Saunders, Robert Ross, Royo, and Vidan, to name a few. In collaboration with Golden Eagle Art Gallery, we are especially proud to present a large collection of original paintings by Russian artist Victor Zag. Collectors seeking quality contemporary art will find many unique pieces to choose from in Zag’s collection (Lots 265-321).

The auction boasts far more than just artwork. Take a look at the world class collection of duck decoys by award winning carver, Tony Bendig (Lots 37-74). Even the most sophisticated decoy and carving collectors will appreciate the quality of his work. Also featured is a large selection of magnificent bronze sculptures, including Michelangelo’s limited edition “Bacchus” (Lot 17); Ron Chapel’s “Cathedral Springs” (Lot 19) and “Sky Touching Earth (Lot 20); and Kent Ullberg’s “Sailfish” (Lots 14). A second fascinating limited edition Michelangelo not to be missed is “Pieta” (Lot 16). Further, there are a selection of Inuit carvings well worth viewing (Lots 22-30).

In addition to original artwork and sculptures, you will find a vast array of limited edition prints and canvases from some of the most famous artists. A highlight of this session is a 16 print collection of Picasso lithographs (Lots 582-596). Works by many other well-regarded artists from the United States and worldwide will capture your attention.
