Accomplished equine artist Fred Stone, whose works are located in homes and businesses around the world, died Feb. 4 due to complications from cancer. He was 87.
Stone was born April 13, 1930, in St. Louis. When he was three, Stone and his family moved to Los Angeles.
According to the BloodHorse, Stone attended the Art Center School and Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles.
Upon graduation, Stone worked as a commercial artist and worked in the film industry painting backgrounds. In the 1970s, he began painting racehorses and he quickly found success. Originals of his work are in the collections of both the British royal family and the White House.
Stone also painted several murals around the world – A Stone original in the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas has been called the largest horse mural in the world.
Stone also sold many of his originals to support racing-related charities around the country. Horse art, equestrian art.
