Lot 668
This striking Inuit stone carving titled Muskox was hand-carved in 2021 by acclaimed Inuk artist Kupapik Ningeocheak of Coral Harbour, Nunavut. Executed in richly speckled black serpentine, the sculpture stands 6 3/4 inches tall, 8 inches long, and 3 1/2 inches wide, offering an exceptional balance of strength and refinement. The work captures the powerful yet gentle presence of the muskox through a bold, stylized silhouette and meticulous attention to detail - including the fluted skirt along the lower body, softly rounded horn boss, and cleanly incised features.
Kupapik Ningeocheak is known for his ability to blend traditional Inuit sculptural language with clean, contemporary lines. The serpentine stone is expertly carved and polished to a smooth matte-satin finish, allowing the natural mineral speckling to add visual depth and organic texture. The sculpture rests on four solidly integrated legs with a finished underside, ensuring excellent stability and craftsmanship throughout.
This piece is accompanied by its original Government of Canada Inuit Art authenticity card, confirming the artist, community, date, and title. Authentic serpentine carvings from Coral Harbour are highly regarded among collectors for their distinct sculptural forms and elegant minimalism.
A museum-quality example of contemporary Inuit art, this work would be a prized addition to any fine Indigenous art collection or luxury interior.
