Description:

Offered here is an exceptionally rare and visually captivating 1971 abstract monotype print titled "Chinook – Snow Eater" by listed American artist Marilyn K. Dyer, hand-signed and numbered 7/10 in graphite by the artist at lower right. This richly textured and highly expressive black-and-white composition demonstrates Dyer’s command of line, density, and organic abstraction, evoking the powerful natural transformation brought about by a Chinook wind - known as the "snow eater" for its ability to rapidly melt snow in the western plains. The title, handwritten in graphite below the image, enhances the poetic and environmental resonance of the piece.
Measuring 17 inches x 26 inches (full paper size), this monotype is printed on heavyweight deckle-edged fine art paper and retains exceptional detail and contrast across its surface. The condition is excellent, with no foxing, tears, or visible discoloration. All corners are sharp with minimal age toning, and the work has clearly been well-preserved unframed. The visible plate impression and varied inking methods showcase Dyer’s experimental printmaking techniques during this period.
This particular piece is exceptionally rare - as a monotype from a strictly limited edition of only 10 impressions, it combines the exclusivity of a hand-pulled print with the painterly uniqueness of monotype processes. This is number 7 of 10, making it especially desirable for collectors of early 1970s American printmakers or those focused on abstract and nature-inspired modernism.
Marilyn K. Dyer, an accomplished printmaker active in the late 20th century, has been recognized in regional and academic circles for her contribution to monotype and lithographic experimentation. This 1971 work is an early and important example of her exploration of environmental themes through abstraction.
