Description:

A commanding and lyrical example by master carver Nuna Parr of Cape Dorset - Kinngait, Nunavut, this monumental Bear rises to 22 3/4 inches tall and is carved in finely finished dark grey-black serpentine stone. Parr’s most celebrated subject - the dancing bear - is here distilled to pure movement and mass: broad squared forepaws arc upward in a dynamic reach, one hind leg lifts in mid-step, and the streamlined head tilts forward with a delicate incised mouth and white-infilled eye that animate the expression. The stone has a rich satin surface with subtle tonal veining, catching light across rounded shoulders, taut back, and full haunches to emphasize the sculpture’s rhythm and balance. The work is impeccably signed NUNA PARR incised at the heel and is accompanied by its Canadian authenticity certification tag completed for the artist, community Dorset, title Bear, and date 2025.

Collectors prize Nuna Parr for the power and grace of his large-scale dancing bears - a hallmark of Cape Dorset - Kinngait sculpture - and this example delivers everything a high-end buyer seeks: impressive scale at 7 inches deep x 7 inches wide x 22 3/4 inches high, refined toolwork, confident negative space under the lifted limbs, and excellent stance with a clean footprint for display. The serpentine chosen by Parr is dense and resonant, presenting a dramatic near-black tone that reads beautifully in natural or gallery lighting and complements both contemporary and traditional interiors. Condition: excellent with only the faint surface rubs and natural inclusions inherent to serpentine and the artist’s finish - no chips, cracks, or repairs observed.

A museum-caliber Inuit art centerpiece - Cape Dorset - Kinngait dancing bear, Nuna Parr, serpentine stone, 2025, signed, with certification - this sculpture offers blue-chip presence, immediate wall-power, and lasting value for the serious Inuit art, Canadian art, and modern sculpture collector.
