Description:

Offered is a carefully curated group of seven original hand-pulled serigraphs by two pillars of the Woodland School - Roy Thomas (Anishinaabe, 1949–2004) and Josh Kakegamic (Cree-Ojibwe, 1952–1993). Executed in the bold, black-contoured graphic language that defines the Norval Morrisseau lineage, these prints present classic themes of interconnection among birds, fish, turtle, bear and sun spirits. Several sheets bear the Pacific Editions Limited blindstamp, desirable proof of reputable studio printing. The colors are vivid and saturated throughout; papers show deckled edges and the impressions are crisp. Where noted, some sheets show typical age speckling (light foxing) in the margins only - image fields remain bright and clean. Includes:
Josh Kakegamic, “Transformation,” signed “Josh Kakegamic” and dated ‘79 numbered 67/67 at lower left. A powerful metamorphosis image in orange/blue with central spirit-fish. Condition: bright; minor peripheral handling and a few tiny specks in the wide margin.
Roy Thomas, “Ancestors,” signed “Roy Thomas ‘78,” numbered 5/200; Pacific Editions Limited blindstamp at lower right. Totemic stack under sun with turtle, fish, bear and birds; classic early palette. Condition: excellent with clean sheet and strong color.
Roy Thomas, “Art Teacher,” signed “Roy Thomas ‘90,” numbered 9/110; Pacific Editions Limited blindstamp. Towering avian/spirit stack with teaching motif. Condition: very good; scattered light foxing in outer margins only.
Roy Thomas, “Art Students,” signed “Roy Thomas,” numbered 9/110; Pacific Editions Limited blindstamp. Companion to the previous, with layered students/birds under celestial orbs. Condition: very good; light margin foxing and a few handling specks.
Roy Thomas, “Spiritual Being,” signed “Roy Thomas ’79,” numbered 110/150. Rich orange field framing loon, turtle, fish and sun within a red spirit line. Condition: excellent; sheet clean and vibrant.
Roy Thomas, “Third Generation,” signed “Roy Thomas ‘79,” numbered 75/150. Earth-orange ground with turtle bearing three loons beneath a medicine sun; an iconic design about continuity and teachings. Condition: excellent; crisp impression, minimal corner handling.
Roy Thomas, “Spiritual Being,” (second impression) signed “Roy Thomas ‘79,” numbered 120/150. Condition: excellent.
Early and mature editions across two major Woodland artists; two 1979 Roy Thomas studio prints in outstanding color, a scarce low number (5/200) for Ancestors, a matched pair of Spiritual Being from the same edition (ideal for flanking display), and an unusually small-edition Kakegamic work numbered 67/67. The presence of Pacific Editions Limited blindstamps on multiple sheets bolsters print quality and provenance. These are quintessential, wall-power images with broad crossover demand in Canadian Indigenous, modern graphic, and design-driven collections.
