The composition presents a serene human visage with closed eyes and parted lips at the front while a seal emerges as a spirit form that rises from and rides the crown, its foreflippers clearly articulated and its body flowing along the back of the head. Kilabuk’s handling of the stone balances broad, confident planes with crisp tool-work at the nose, eyelids, lips, and flipper details, allowing the natural mottling of the serpentine to animate the surfaces and emphasize the metamorphic theme that has become central to classic Inuit shamanic iconography.
